How much does a SLP earn in Virginia?
SLP roles we recruit across the US are advertised at roughly $72k – $108k, typically $72k entry, $88k mid-career and $108k at senior or supervisory level. In Virginia, where an individual offer lands inside that range is driven by licensure, setting, caseload and local cost of living rather than a state-wide average. Northern Virginia competes with DC and Maryland for the same candidate pool; multi-state licensure is common.

What changes a SLP offer in Virginia
- LPC, LCSW and LMFT are licensed by DHP.
- Setting: School districts and contract school services, Pediatric outpatient clinics, Skilled nursing facilities price differently for the same credential.
- Caseload cap and billable or productivity target, which decide whether a bonus is real.
- Metro cost of living within the state; a city premium is not the same as a better offer.
- Scarcity: Our second-largest search area and structurally short nationwide. School-based caseloads and pediatric feeding are the hardest to fill; teletherapy has widened the candidate pool but not closed the gap.
Why we do not publish a VA average
We publish what we actually see advertised on roles we recruit. We do not hold a statistically valid state-level survey, so quoting a Virginia average would be guesswork dressed as data. For official state wage estimates, use the federal source and treat it as a floor for negotiation, not a target.

Hiring SLPs in Virginia
Pay is the last thing that fixes a stalled search
SLP offers are won on caseload cap, paperwork time and whether CFs are genuinely supported. School contracts also need clarity on stipends and the school-year calendar.
